Fr. In almost all modern biographies of holy people, the ancient legends and fables that surrounded their lives and deaths are discounted, ridiculed, or omitted. Yet these unlikely and fabulous stories often tell us what attracted devotees to these saints, and deserve critical attention. In addition, many of the essays contain at least one little-known bit of information on the saint or commemoration of the day.
