Fr. John-Julian’s Stars in a Dark World is the most comprehensive and detailed collection of the biographies of the saints and background information about the holy days of the Episcopal liturgy available today. This 700-page book is the result of over seven years of research and study, and covers all liturgical commemorations approved for use through 2006.
In almost all modern biographies of holy people, the ancient legends and fables that surrounded their lives and deaths are discounted, ridiculed, or omitted. Yet these unlikely and fabulous stories often tell us what attracted devotees to these saints, and deserve critical attention. In addition, many of the essays contain at least one little-known bit of information on the saint or commemoration of the day.
